Growing the Catholic Economy
What is the Catholic Economy?
The Catholic Economy is that portion of the economy that is owned, managed, or used by Catholics.
What does it mean to “Grow the Catholic Economy”?
Essentially, it’s helping Catholics intentionally create, support, and strengthen businesses that reflect Catholic values.
What does that actually look like?
- Connecting Catholics with Catholic businesses so Catholic consumers know where they can spend their money in alignment with their values.
- Helping Catholic business owners grow through relationships, referrals, networking, collaboration, and access to other Catholic entrepreneurs.
- Keeping more economic activity within the Catholic community—when a Catholic hires, buys from, refers to, or partners with another Catholic business, that creates opportunities for the whole network.
- Building businesses that contribute to the common good, not merely businesses that happen to be owned by Catholics.
- Creating a virtuous cycle: Catholic businesses serve people well → Catholics support those businesses → those businesses grow → they hire, give, invest, and create more opportunities → the Catholic business community becomes stronger.
An even simpler way to think about it:
It’s about making the Catholic community an economic community—not just a community we worship with, but one we work with, buy from, hire, refer, and build with.
It’s not simply “Catholics buying from Catholics.” It’s Catholics building an ecosystem in which businesses help one another flourish.
